Start with one number
Most budgets fail because they're too detailed on day one. HYFO starts with a single monthly figure. Add category budgets later for the one or two categories that tend to run over.
Warnings early, not after the fact
As a category gets close to its budget, HYFO says so while there's still time to adjust. Rent, EMIs and subscriptions you add as recurring are counted in what's left before they're paid.
